Reflecting.

So I had a little down time, so I decided to review all of my past blogs, starting with the first one, in February.

Even though it was only 8 months ago, I've changed so much. I was so silly! Seeing my first pics that I "edited" were hilarious. I thought I was a hotshot because I could change the lighting. LOL. Too funny. Kinda lame too. Ha!

Really though, that is one of the reasons I even created this blog, was to track my progress as I make my way through professional photography. Never did I think it would be this hard. All the things I've had to learn, all the things I STILL need to learn...shoot, the list goes on. All the technicallities to taking a single picture, which are easy to do now, but 8 months ago...ha!

And school is a whole other issue. Don't know if I've mentioned it on here, but in April I enrolled into the Photography Institute digital photography program, and it's sooooooo hard! I'm the kind of person who buys on impulse, bad, I know, but I'm working on it. Anyway, I suppose I should have shopped around for my education a little more than I did because there are a lot of things that I'm having to learn that I will never use. Sounds like high school right? It's just frustrating because there are so many other things I would rather be doing than learning about 100 year old film cameras!

Now I feel better. :)

I also created this blog as free therapy to myself, lol!

I've also made the decision, which is making me be financially smart as well, lol, I've decided to put off buying the big Photoshop CS5 (it's like $700) until I am a freakin pro with Photoshop Elements. Make sense? Unless someone wants to buy it for me, then by all means :) Kidding.

And I've done two weddings! That still blows me away! I would have never thought 8 months ago, that I would have shot two weddings. That's a big, scary deal! Go me!

So I'm done feeling all nostalgic. I'm proud of myself, of the progress I've made in essentially teaching myself a new trade that is WAY different than I thought it would ever be. More importantly, I still LOVE it! :)

I've got lots of shoots lined up within the next few weeks, which I am SO excited about! LOTS and LOTS of pictures to come soon!

Busy.

Well, well, well. Another month long gap in between blogs. As lame as that is, I do have a legitimate excuse. I shot TWO weddings!

Wedding number one, the Gauna wedding, was on Saturday, October 2nd. Talk about nervous.

The ladies were getting ready at the Santa Maria Inn, and I was to be there at noon. On the way there, I was a wreck. No, seriously. I was a hot mess. I was so completely nervous. I was shaking, nauseous. I was even CRYING. Yes, crying. I was positive that I was not cut out for this, that I was not good enough, etc. After my little breakdown, I turned on my iPod to some Black Eyed Peas, cranked it up, and sang along. I calmed down, still nervous, but now a was actually functional.

The day before the wedding, I spoke with the other photographer, that the grooms sister was bringing to the wedding. She had about 8 years of wedding photography experience, so I whole-heatedly agreed to second shoot and let her take the lead.

On the wedding day, I walked into the lobby of the hotel, saw a lady with the same camera bag as myself. I assumed it was "Kat" and introduced myself. She took me upstairs to the room where the ladies were getting ready. I really calmed down here, especially when I took out my camera and got down to business.

I really did enjoy myself. There were a lot of things I learned from Kat. I mean a lot. However, the only thing that really bothered be was the way she spoke to the bridal party, the groom in particular. They were HILARIOUS and fun, and just having a good time. Kat really didn't seem into their humor, but that's probably because she was there for one thing only, and that was to get the job done. I still thought some of her comments were inappropriate, regardless of the timeline or other things that were to be done.

Christina and Paul (the bride and groom) were awesome. They were so fun and in love and open to so many things. Such fun and they were great people to have for my first wedding.

Here are some pics from their big day.

Wedding number 2, was the very next day. I had met with this bride a few weeks prior, so I wasn't nervous AT ALL! What a relief. And kinda funny considering this was my first wedding with ME leading. It was weird and fun all at the same time. My second shooter was my bestie, so there were no issues there. Such an easy, fun wedding. I also learned a lot that day too. This wedding was much shorter than the first, so all in all, it just seemed easier. Here are some pics:

So that's it for now. Lots coming soon...holiday pictures, maternity pictures, and NEWBORN pics! Can't wait! :)

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY!

I love it! Finally I'm getting what I asked for!

In my last post, I mentioned my thoughts on wedding photography, and my approach into booking weddings. I mentioned the free ad on Craigslist and it was a hit! Within the first 18 hours, I had 3 wedding inquiries, 1 senior portrait, a newborn, and a married couple shoot inquiry! As the rest of the weekend progressed, I got more and more emails. I got so many, I had to take the ad down, so it's been a little quieter since then :)

I BOOKED THREE WEDDINGS!!!

And they are all within 1 WEEK of eachother! 3 weddings in one week!

How crazy is that? I am so excited, stoked, blessed, scared, nervous, proud, anxious, pretty much any feeling you could feel, I am.

Even though I'm not charging for these weddings, I feel like it's an even bigger deal than if I were charging. I feel like I have to prove myself now, if that makes sense.

Talk about a lucky girl! I can't wait to post my first wedding pictures!!!

Long time, no blog!

Hello again! It's been a long 3 months since I've blogged. Lots has been going on, and lots of pictures have been taken! I'd say, probably, 2000. No joke. :)

Here's a little recap of some of the things I've been up to:

May:

May was a busy month for me. The first shoot I did was Siena P. At the time, she was 9 months old. Here is a little peek of her shoot.

To see more of her pictures, go here :http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nipomo-CA/Natalie-Stricklin-Photography/106044459417952?v=photos&ref=ts#!/album.php?aid=14316&id=106044459417952

The very next day, I did a long 3 hour shoot with Kyleigh, who is six (I think). She wants to be a liitle model, as you can tell!

Then came the Chavez family! SO much fun. They are a fun loving, HILARIOUS foursome. Here are a few...

JUNE
In June, I went camping :)

JULY
In July, I did my cousin Ali's senior pictures. She was so fun and is absolutely GORGEOUS!

Well that's my recap.

As far as my photography goes, I've enrolled in The Photography Institute to further educate myself. I want to have that under my belt since I wanted some credentials as part as my portfolio.

Lots coming in the future as well. Sept 11th, I will be shooting Siena's (shown above) first birthday. I haven't seen her in so long, I bet she's even more adorable. In November, I will be taking a trip to Texas to visit the fam, but also to do my first maternity shoot of my cousin Danielle and her soon to be son, Rylan. Upon my arrival home, I hope my also pregnant friend Amanda, will let me do maternity/family pictures of her! After both babies are born, I plan and heading back to Texas and doing pictures of them again. Yay for babies!

The biggest leap that I want to take, is to step into wedding photography. I'm obsessed with weddings, I love them so. But they also intimidate me because of the MASSIVE importance and pressure. But I think I may have found a solution. Every other month, I receive a DVD seminar of 10 segments of diffferent photographers. One of them recommended I put and ad on Craigslist for FREE, and see if that can get my foot in the door and also calm my nerves. Some people don't put photography as a priority when planning a wedding. Some people can't afford it. So my plan is to find THOSE people. Make sense? I hope so.

Well that is all. That is one heck of an update! :) Goodnight!

Girly Girls.

Lots has been going on lately! This past weekend, my nieces, Morgan (9) and Tori (6) stayed the night at my house, we had a "spa makeover", then we went on a photo shoot, per their request! We started in the stunning backyard of the Hitching Post, and ended at Waller Park, after being chased by the ducks of course. These girls are extremely girly, and VERY photogenic, so that made my job pretty easy. The only downfall, was that I didn't feel very good! I had just gotten over the stomach flu and wasn't 100%, so I wasn't exactly "in the mood", but once I started, I was good to go! :) Here they are!

Aren't they cute??? :) My nephews are next...hopefully within the next few weeks I can get theirs done too!

I'm in the process of setting up and creating an official website! Hopefully within this next week or 2, I can get it up and running. Same with my business license, I'm aiming for next week.

That's all for now. Happy Mother's Day to all you mom's. Mine's the best! :)
